Briefing: 23 March 2018

Reducing emissions in ports

How can ports cut emissions to ensure cleaner air and contribute to the battle against climate change? A strategic partnership between the GloMEEP Project and the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) is helping selected developing countries in tackling port emissions. Over the coming months, several GloMEEP-IAPH workshops will train port personnel in how to undertake port emission inventories and subsequently identify cost-effective measures to address emissions from ports, based on two technical guides which are also being developed (Guide for assessment of emissions in ports; and Guide for the development of port emissions reductions strategies).

The GloMEEP PCU met with experts representing IAPH, from the Port of Los Angeles, the Port of Long Beach and the Starcrest Consultancy Group, to further develop the draft workshop package and guides.

The first in the series of these workshops to address emissions from ports is scheduled to be held in Ningbo, China from 23-25 April 2018.
